New Lopi wool Hats

Here are some of the hats I made for the Kelowna Farmer's Market last Saturday. I did 'okay' at the market - meaning that I didn't lose any money. I didn't do that great, though either. I didn't see any of the crafters doing especially well. It seemed most people came for the apples, potatoes and bread. I will probably give it another try sometime. I'll let you know. In the meantime, I had a lot of fun making hats out of Lopi Wool died in great bright colours. Here are some of the ones left from the sale.

These first three are all ribbed hats. Erin appropriated the first one I made like this and wears it all the time. So at least they have her stamp of 'cool' approval. These hats are very comfortable and stretchy and fit any adult sized head from 21" - 24". It's because they are ribbed hats. They can be worn baggy like this or pulled down and folded up to have a brim. These first three are made from a variation of the 'Mika' pattern from the "Hip Knit Hats" book by Cathy Carron. (Great book!)

This one is in 'green apple' alafoss 100% Lopi wool. It easily fits from 21 - 24 inch heads.
$30

SOLD

This next one is exactly the same as the one above - just made from black 100% alafoss Lopi Wool. It fits from 21 - 24 inches and can be worn like this or with a folded brim.
$30

This last ribbed hat is the larger than the previous two and can easily accomodate dreads or some other big hairstyle. Or you can just wear it baggy like she is here. Erin's head is an adult's medium. Made from 100% alafoss Lopi Wool
$30

The last of the Lopi Wool hats is also made from a pattern in "Hip Knit Hats". In this case I followed the pattern exactly. It is the 'Cosima' hat. It fits a large head - 23 - 24 inches. Shown here on a 23" head. The ear flaps make it good for outdoor recreation and the thick lopi will will guarantee your head and ears stay warm!

And here is a teaser. This next hat I seem to sell as soon as I make it. I think it is the beautiful Noro yarn. It is 65% wool, 25% silk and 10 kid mohair. It is my own variation on the ' Vita' pattern in the "Hip Knit Hats". This one was ordered at the Kelowna Farmer's Market - a smaller one of the one I had available. And then someone came along and bought the larger one. And it is my most expensive hat, too! (because the yarn is so expensive!)

See, my young model really does have a size adult small head! Its all those brains, I say....heh!

Last of the Updates

Here are the last of the hats formerly featured on this blog. Tomorrow I have a bunch of new hats that are eager to make their debut. In the meantime I have started an Etsy shop. I won't give a link yet until it is worth looking at. And I have signed up for the January 24 Kelowna Farmer's Market. So I have got to get busy with the needles and hooks... So watch for lots of new hats coming up.

Today's hats are all baby hats.
I love this first one made from 100% merino wool it is super soft but I lined it anyways with grey micro fleece. It is a wee ear flap hat. It would likely fit a new born to a 3 month old (if the 3 month old had a smallish head). It fits 16" and can stretch to 17".
$20.00

Here is another one a bit bigger and is made to fit 6 months to a year. It is 100% acrylic - fuzzy and soft and warm.
$15.00

And this one is for a premie or a newborn with a very wee head. It fits about 14 inches and can stretch to 15. The brim can be rolled or pulled down for some extra length. It is made from a very soft acrylic yarn that is very similar to chenille.

More New Hats

These two wee hats are both made from Icelandic Sheep wool - Lopi - my favourite wool.
This first tiny knitted one is for a newborn and fits 14 - 15 inches. It is nice and stretchy and you have all the benefits of real wool - warmth and moisture wicking.
$15.00

This next one is made of the same wool but fits a slightly bigger head and can be worn with a folded brim or not. It fits 17 - 19 inches and could even stretch a little farther.
$15

This is the last of my ear flap hats (I've got to make more of them!). This one is crocheted with a lovely German yarn that is a wool blend so it is very soft and didn't need to be lined. Although it will still need to be hand-washed in cool water and laid flat to dry. It fits a 22 - 23 inch head.
$35

SOLD

This pretty lacy hat is 100% acrylic. It is very soft but not as warm as wool. To preserve the texture of the hat, it should still be washed by hand and laid flat to dry. It fits a 22.5 - 23.5 inch head.
$20.00

This light blue hat has a lovely texture that is impossible to capture in a photo. The yarn is a mixture of light blue and white. It is considered a 'light denim'. It is 100% acrylic and soooooo soft! It is crocheted in a variety of stitches and has a picot edge. It fits 22.5 - 23.5 inches.
$20.00

This bright yellow hat was just a lot of fun to crochet! It is made from the same 'light and lofty' brand as a previous post. Very soft! It fits 21 - 22 inches (my young daughter has a huge head!) So that is either a large child's or a small adults.

And Yet More...

This child's hat is made from a similar yarn to those in the previous post. I found it in a discontinued bin at the yarn store, unfortunately as everything I made with it was very popular and I can't get any more. This is the last one left. It is acrylic with wool trim so it still needs to be washed by hand and laid flat to dry. It fits a 19 - 20 inch head.
$10.00

SOLD

This next hat is very fun. The plain pink yarn is wool and the fun, blobby stuff is an wool/mohair blend. It can be pulled low to the eyes or it can be worn high on the forehead which creates a little peak as it is in this first picture, here. Not only fun, it is beautiful and warm. Double click on the smaller pictures to get a view of the top and the texture. As you can see it fits me comfortably which means it is for a BIG head. It fits 23 - 24 inches.
$30.00

And here is another fun hat. It is 100% wool and crocheted from Noro wool which is a Japanese brand. It is one of my favourites to work with. I just love the colours. This one is lined with light grey micro fleece to keep the wool from itching. Another large hat, it fits 22.5 - 23.5 inches.

Price reduced to $30.00

SOLD

This child's hat is crocheted from my ultimate favourite yarn - Lopi wool from Iceland. I love it so much that I bought Icelandic sheep last summer so I can have some of my very own. A friend of mine is spinning my first batch of fleece right now. Lopi wool has an extra long fibre which makes it lustrous. You can see the sheen even in this picture. It is very warm and lined with micro fleece for comfort. It fits 21 - 22 inches.

And More....

All the crocheted hats in this post have been made from Red Heart's Light and Lofty. It is a fun, textured 100% acrylic yarn. To preserve the texture of the yarn, they should still be washed only on the gentle cycle and would do best washed by hand and not rubbed together. And because it is 'lofty' it is pretty warm for an acrylic.

There are two of this hat exactly the same size. The yarn is a beautiful goldy green with a little light blue in it as well.
They fit a 18 - 19 inch head. It is $10.00

The yarn for this hat is a medley of pinks from pale blossom pink to dark pink. It has been a very popular yarn and this is the last hat I have made from it. It fits about a 20" head. You can fold up the brim or wear it down.

$15.00

These next two hats are made from the same yarn but are slightly different shapes. The yarn is a mix of cream, dark and light blue, dark pink, green and gold.

This first one fits a 23 - 24 inch head. It has no brim.

$20.00

This next one is longer and has a brim that can either be worn folded up or worn down. It fits 22.5 - 23.5 inch head.

$20.00

More Updated Hats For Sale

My goal is to upload 4 hats everyday. I have several that haven't made it onto the blog yet and it is fun to highlight older creations. All these hats today are made from Red Heart's Cozy Wool which is 30% wool and 70% acylic. So it is machine washable. Often people who react to wool can handle this soft yarn next to their skin and you still get much of the warmth of wool. This dark red or burgundy colour is one of my favourites. I have made many hats out of this yarn - they seem to sell out as soon as I make them.
This is my most popular design. I guess it has become a bit of a 'signature' design. It is single crochet with a picot edge. The trim is wool and alpaca wool so it still has to be washed by hand and laid flat to dry.

It fits a 23 - 23.5 inch head and is $30.00

SOLD

This little elfish hat is of the same wool blend. It is hard to capture the shade of orange on camera. It would be considered a 'burnt' orange. It also has wool trim with a picot edge and is done in single crochet.

It fits a 21 - 22 inch head and is $20.00

This hat is made of the same yarn as the first only the trim is also a washable wool so this hat is entirely machine washable although I would recommend laying flat to dry. Please double click on the small image to get an idea of the texture of the hat. This one has a plain edge. But if you really wanted a picot edge, it would be no trouble to add it at no extra charge.

It fits a 22.5 - 23.5 inch head and is $30.00

And this hat is the made of the same yarn as the previous hat with wool trim so not as washable. It has a single crochet band with a half-double crochet top. It is a very large hat - I have a big head and it is loose on mine.

It fits 23.5 - 24.5 inch head and is reduced to $20.00
